THE LENGTHS PEOPLE GO TO
TO PERFORM ON STAGE!
There's a busy time ahead for the members of Phoenix Ladies Harmony Chorus
as they have been booked to appear on the Friday Show at the British Association
of Barbershop Singers (BABS) Convention in Harrogate on Friday 28 May.
To fulfill this engagement, a coach will depart Potton at 3.15 pm in order
to get them to the International Conference Centre in Harrogate in time for
the performance. Once their performance is over the ladies will reboard the
coach for the journey home, returning to Potton in the early hours of the following
morning - such is the enthusiasm within this chorus for performing!
The weekend prior to the BABS engagement - Sunday 23 May - will see Phoenix
participate in the Radio 3 Choir of the Year heat in Peterborough. Previously
this competition has been sponsored by Sainsbury's. Phoenix were finalists
in the 2002 competition.
Phoenix
is a long established chorus, based in
Potton, singing in four-part close harmony,
mainly in the barbershop style. Members
generally come from Bedfordshire, South
Cambridgeshire and North Hertfordshire,
but there are others prepared to travel
further eg from Buckinghamshire, Derbyshire
and Yorkshire! New members are always
welcome – "if you can hold
a tune, we have a part for you!".
Phoenix won Gold at the Ladies Association of British Barbershop Singers (LABBS)
Convention in 2001. They are the Association's current Silver Champions and
will be aiming for Gold once again when they return to Harrogate in November
for LABBS' annual convention.
