Singing as a child like many others I
belonged to a School Choir and a Church Choir, then
progressing to Karaoke machines in my teens. Recently
this was limited to singing in front of a mirror with
a microphone hairbrush and singing along to CD’s
in my car, I’m sure some of you will recognise
this! I initially joined BATS, Biggleswade Amateur
Theatrical Society just to sing in the chorus, then
I found Phoenix.
I first heard about Phoenix by accident
through a friend of a friend the day before they were
running a 10 week singing course, which ends with a
very friendly and relaxing audition. I’m happy
to say I passed and I am now a full member in the Baritone
section.
I have always wanted to do something that could use my singing voice and
maybe show my emotions attached. It’s been six months now since joining
Phoenix and I feel just as excited as the first day I went along.
I couldn’t believe I hadn’t
heard of Phoenix before, considering I live in Biggleswade
and they rehearse in Potton. As soon as I heard the
Phoenix Ladies sing their first song I new I wanted
to be part of them. They sang and moved exactly how
I wanted too and was very excited at the thought of
joining them. Every one has been friendly warm and
welcoming and I have made a lot of new friends too.
We practise every Tuesday night and I can’t wait
for the next Tuesday to come round quick enough. It
takes me about an hour after getting home from every
rehearsal to come down from the buzz, before I can
sleep.
Recently I have joined the front row
of the chorus doing floor moves to the singing. I can’t
believe that 6 months ago I was dreaming of doing something
like this and Phoenix has made me feel that I have
found the one goal I was looking for and having to
do dance moves has been the icing on the cake for me.
I would just like to say that if anyone
has any sort of love for singing to come and hear and
watch us and I’m sure you would want to belong
too.
